Seriously chic boutique hotels in the Marais in Paris

Paris stole my heart many years ago. It’s probably my favourite city with its stunning architecture, delicious food, fashion and cutting-edge design. Add to that the pretty cobbled streets, galleries, trendy cafes and chic boutique hotels in le Marais and I could lose myself for days exploring this tiny corner of Paris.

The Marais occupies the 3rd and 4th arrondissements of the city. Over the last 20 or so years, this pretty medieval enclave has become one of the trendiest parts of the city. There are hundreds of boutique hotels in Paris but less than 100 hotels in the area actually defined as the Marais.

Searches for the best hotels in Marais Paris will often come up with accommodation nearby but not in the heart of the Marais which can be misleading. The only way to be 100 % certain is to check the postcodes in the address which should be either 75003 or 75004 which are the codes for the 3rd and 4th districts of Paris.

The Best Boutique hotels in Le Marais to steal your heart

Hôtel Jules & Jim

Three townhouses were knocked together to make the 23-roomed Hotel Jules & Jim which was named after a 1962 Truffaut film. I think this is the best hotel in Le Marais Paris.

Although the rooms are modern there has been attention to detail. “Jules” and “Sous les toits” which literally means under the roofs, rooms are fairly small. Other rooms have balconies with either courtyard or street views, while the rooms higher up overlook the rooftops of Paris. The bathrooms are all fitted with a powerful rain shower.

The hotel Jules & Jim is a 3-minute walk from the Arts et Métiers Metro station. It is about a 10-minute walk to the Pompidou Centre and a 20-minute walk to the Louvre.

You can’t help but love this luxury hotel in the Marais Paris. At its heart is a cobbled courtyard with a glass roof and a vertical garden that climbs up high and covers the walls. The interior is contemporary with exposed brick, concrete and wood. The lobby doubles as a gallery and exhibits graphic art and photographs by Parisian artists. There is also a bookshelf with a library and the bar, which is just off the lobby.

    Hotel du Petit Moulin

The Hotel du Petit Moulin is in a 17th-century building that has been converted into 17 opulent rooms. The interior is nothing short of eclectic with an explosion of colours and textures all chosen by none other than Christian Lacroix.

The building was a bakery in days gone by and frequented by Victor Hugo who would pop in for a baguette on his way home.  The original doors and shop front have been kept for the entranceway. It looks so authentic that you might still expect to find a bakery behind the doors. It is a gem of a hotel in the Marais.

The lounge area is decorated with velvet and billowy curtains that hang over exposed beams. The rooms have all been individually decorated with stylish, statement décor. They are best described by Christian  Lacroix  – “Each room had to tell the beginning of a story, a story to be completed by the travellers themselves”. Isn’t this a great quote?

The Hotel du Petit Moulin is theatrical and eccentric, a bit exotic and has a wow factor. It’s one of the best luxury hotels in le Marais. If you are looking for the best hotels in Le Marais Paris this is the perfect choice.

    Hotel Caron

The Hotel Caron is exactly what you would expect one of the best boutique hotels le Marais, Paris to be. It is on a quiet side street, in a central location, about a 2-minute walk to the St Paul metro station. You can walk to the Picasso museum in about 8 minutes and Notre Dame is just a 15-minute walk away.

It may be small, but the interior is contemporary and hip and one of the best hotels in le Marais Paris.  The soft drinks in the minibar are free and double glazed windows block out the sounds of day-to-day life. The rooms are decorated in earthy colours and have been cleverly designed to maximise the available space.

One of my pet hates is not being able to open a window. The large windows in the bedrooms allow the light to stream in and these can be opened. The rooms all have air-conditioning which is a necessity in Parisian summers. The bathrooms are sleek and one of my favourite brands, L’Occitane are the toiletries provided in the bathroom.

A buffet breakfast is available in the dining room, but if you prefer you can opt for a Continental breakfast served in your room. You will find numerous restaurants and patisseries in the immediate surroundings so you may prefer to grab something to eat in the area.

Tip: The rooms facing the street have better views.

    Hotel Emile

The new 3-star Emile hotel boutique hotel in le Marais Paris is about 100 meters away from the Saint Paul metro station.

The décor of the 29 rooms is modern with patterned walls juxtaposing a wall of solid colour. Tiled floors add a Moorish touch and the grey, black and white palette has a trendy feel about it. The rooms are flooded with natural light and the windows are double glazed and soundproofed. All the rooms are air-conditioned.  Two of the floors have narrow Juliet-styled balconies and stunning views of Rue de Rivoli.

Some of the bathrooms have a beautiful traditional claw-footed bath, while others have the option of a shower.

You can have breakfast at the hotel but bear in mind that you are surrounded by cafes and boulangeries so you might prefer to have breakfast while you are out and about.

If you are looking for a central location then Hotel Emile is the answer.

      Hotel Georgette

The 4-star Hotel Georgette is always a popular choice in the Marais. The Pompidou Centre is 350 m away while the nearest metro station, Rambuteau, is a 3-minute walk. This is the trendy part of town with hip bars, restaurants and shops. Nothing says “welcome to Paris” like champagne which is on offer as you check in.

The hotel embraces all forms of art. Most of the modern art movements are featured in the décor. I especially love the wackiness of the Andy Warhol-inspired Campbell soup can lampshades. There are often art exhibitions in the lobby as well. It is modern, eclectic, colourful and fun.

There are 19 rooms which are all individually themed. The décor is naturally trendy and modern with sleek bathrooms that are fitted with rain showers. Fragonard toiletries are provided. There are tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms and a minibar as well.  A buffet breakfast is served in the bright, cheerful dining room.

Hotel Georgette is a beautiful design hotel, in a popular part of the Marais that offers excellent value for money in an otherwise pricey part of town.

      Hôtel Jeanne d’Arc Le Marais

Hidden away, down a pretty lane filled with cute shops and galleries you will find the hotel Jeanne d’Arc which offers an affordable quality stay in the heart of le Marais. Place des Voges is a 2-minute walk away and is a popular haunt for Instagrammers. The nearest metro station is Chemin Vert which is about a 5-minute walk away.

The hotel has been newly revamped and is a winner in the mid-range price category. The 34 rooms all now have a bright, contemporary feel about them, but beautiful historic architectural details have been maintained.

The bedrooms have retro-coloured soft furnishings that pop against the white walls and modern wooden flooring. A feature that scores a 10 out of 10 from me is a multi-plug fitting that allows you to charge a number of devices. It’s a simple thing, but it saves having devices scattered all over the place while you charge them. Finding a boutique hotel in Le Marais with rooms for families can be difficult but this hotel has 2 rooms available for families.

The all-white bathrooms are fitted with a bath or shower and the soap and shower gel is organic.

A simple French-style breakfast is served, but you are surrounded by a wide choice of cafes in the immediate area.

      • Tip: For solo travellers, the small single rooms are excellent value

      Hotel Duo

Hotel Duo is a luxury design hotel and is 140 metres away from the nearest metro station and about a block away from the Hotel de Ville.

It was decorated by Jean Philippe Nuel, who is a well-known architect. It is trendy and modern, but functional at the same time. Colours are shades of brown, punctuated by pops of chartreuse and slate blue.

A bonus feature is a fitness room and a sauna which is an unusual feature in a hotel of this size.

Each of the 58 rooms are contemporary in style and some of the rooms even have a Juliet balcony. There are large windows that can be opened and allow the daylight to stream into the room. Breakfast is served in the lounge area or can be sent to your bedroom if you prefer.

Hotel Duo is elegant, classy and modern and a great place to base yourself for your stay in the City of Lights.

      Hotel de Neuve by Happyculture

There are many beautiful boutique hotels in Marais Paris, but I love the gorgeous boutique Hotel de Neuve. It is a short stroll away from the Seine and the Place de la Bastille so it is ideally located to go sightseeing.

The rooms have muted tones with rich colours to accentuate the details. The wallpaper makes a statement and the floor-to-ceiling curtains complete the elegant feel of the room. The flat-screen TV has a variety of digital channels while the linen and bath towels are premium quality. All the rooms are soundproofed so you won’t be disturbed.

A buffet breakfast is served daily. The delightful Hotel de Neuve is the ideal choice for a relaxed stay in Paris. If you are looking for the best hotels in Marais Paris, then look no further.

Is Le Marais a good neighbourhood?

The Marais was built on marshland which is marais in French. It has a village feel about it with cute cobblestoned streets, quirky boutiques and foodie hotspots, including the oldest market in Paris, the Marché couvert des Enfants Rouges. It is a charming corner of Paris that must be seen.

It is not the cheapest part of Paris, but it is one of the best places to stay in Paris. The district is beautifully preserved with traditional bistros, pretty parks and hidden fountains in squares that are tucked away.

How to get around Le Marais

The best way to explore the Marais is to walk. It’s also a great way of stumbling upon some hidden gems.

The 29, 75, and 96 buses all make several stops in the heart of the Parisian arrondissement. There are a few Metro lines that you can use including lines 1, 4, 7, and 11. Some of the closest stations are Le Varrerie, Hotel de Ville, Centre Georges Pompidou, and Archives–Rambuteau depending on what part of the Marais you want to visit.

The best time to visit Le Marais is on a Sunday when the main cobblestone roads are closed to traffic and you can stroll through the area at your leisure.
