The Northcote Cookery School is the perfect place to learn new cooking skills and cheffy tips, led by renowned chefs who have earned their culinary stripes. With Lisa Goodwin-Allen boasting a Michelin star, you can expect nothing short of excellence. Rick, (Richard Ogden) who leads the classes is a genius at adapting Lisa’s recipes so that anyone can create a first-class dish at home.

What sets this cooking school apart is its wide range of classes catering to all levels of expertise. Whether you’re a beginner looking to master the basics or a seasoned cook aiming to improve your techniques, there’s something for everyone. From hands-on sessions delving into the art of pasta making to mastering the intricacies of French patisserie, the choice of classes is as varied as it is enticing. I could not make up my mind about which course to choose and having done one I want to do more!

One of the highlights of attending a class at the Northcote Cooking School is the opportunity to learn in a relaxed and intimate setting. The facilities at the cooking school equipped with state-of-the-art appliances and utensils. Whether you’re learning the art of knife skills or perfecting the art of sauce-making, you’ll have everything you need at your fingertips.

I was taken on a journey through the vibrant flavours of Mumbai with the Mumbai Spice Trail Course. We learnt how to create authentic Mumbai dishes bursting with flavour. Having visited India I was interested to see if the dishes we were going to learn would live up to my memory of the food in India. Not only did they tick all the boxes but the delicious aromas and flavours took me straight back to India.

The tuition was hands-on, and Rick was ably assisted by Ben Hinchcliffe. It was easy to learn the new techniques and to perfect the dishes we were cooking.

The Kerala Prawn curry and Kashmiri Pilaff were my favourite dishes of the day. The depth of flavour was sensational. It is going to make an appearance at home for dinner as often as possible. I loved the chutneys we learned to make as well. I discovered that the tamarind chutney was delicious with cheese as well. This is going to become another regular recipe.

But it’s not just about the cooking at Northcote, a 2-course Michelin-starred lunch is included as well! Lunch was memorable and the presentation of the dishes was outstanding.

I can honestly say that this was one of my favourite foodie days in ages and I can’t praise the team enough for their dedication and skill.

After lunch, it was back to the kitchen for more cooking. Mumbai Spiced Lamb chops this time and Naan Bread with more delicious food prepared by the chefs.

The Northcote Cooking School is a must-visit destination for anyone passionate about food and eager to improve their cooking skills or enjoy a fun foodie day out. With its talented chefs, the variety of classes and idyllic setting, it’s a culinary experience that will leave you inspired and craving for more.
