I’ve been to Bangkok more than 12 times and have stayed at several of the hotels on this list, including Siam@Siam, Shanghai Mansion and Sala Rattanakosin. It’s just off a quiet street near Asok BTS, so you’re close to everything without the chaos right on your doorstep. I stayed at Sala Rattanakosin for the Wat Arun view, and it is every bit as good as it looks in the photos. It’s sleek and modern with clean lines, pale wood, and huge windows that do the heavy lifting.

After more than 12 trips to Bangkok, I’ve learnt that where I stay changes the trip more here than in most cities. I’ve loved waking up opposite Wat Arun at Sala Rattanakosin and stepping straight into Chinatown from Shanghai Mansion, but I’d choose somewhere completely different for a weekend in Thonglor. For the rest of the trip, my Bangkok itinerary pulls the city together day by day.
