If you had to pick just one spot that sums up the island’s natural beauty, Le Morne Beach would be it. Backed by the dramatic UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant mountain and fronted by a turquoise lagoon that seems to stretch forever, it’s honestly hard to take a bad photo here. The beach is long, breezy, and beautifully raw—no high-rise hotels or flashy resorts to crowd your view.

This area is famous for kite surfing and windsurfing thanks to the reliable trade winds and shallow reefs that create perfect conditions. Even if you’re not the sporty type, it’s a stunning place to walk, swim, or just lie on a towel under a palm tree.

Belle Mare – The Early Riser’s Dream

Belle Mare is a quiet, unspoiled gem on the east coast of Mauritius. This beach feels wonderfully wild, with fewer crowds and a much more laid-back vibe. The sand is powdery white, the sea is a dreamy blue, and the breeze keeps things cool even in the middle of the day. It’s a favourite among locals for weekend picnics, but otherwise, it stays blissfully quiet.

What sets Belle Mare apart is the sheer length of the beach—you can walk for what feels like hours along the palm-lined shore. If you’re an early riser, you’ll love the sunrises here. Watching the sky shift from purple to orange over a calm sea is a moment you won’t forget.

Mont Choisy is one of the longest and most accessible beaches in the north of the island. It’s got a mellow, friendly vibe with a gently curving bay that’s ideal for swimming, paddling, and just lounging around. Locals love it here, especially on weekends, and it’s a top pick for both tourists and Mauritians who want a classic beach day without the crowds of the nearby resorts.

There are a few snack stalls and food trucks scattered around, plus plenty of shade under the trees. The beach is clean, the water is usually calm, and the atmosphere is unpretentious—just sun, sea, and good vibes.

Insider tip: For a quieter experience, visit on weekdays and walk toward the ends of the beach. This is also a great place to spot local life—families playing music, kids splashing in the sea, and couples watching the sun go down.

Pereybere – The Instagram Star

Tiny but bursting with charm, Pereybere Beach is one of the most popular spots in the north of Mauritius and is one of my go-to spots when I am on the island. It’s postcard-perfect with soft white sand and some of the clearest, bluest water on the island. What makes this beach stand out (besides the views) is its easy access to restaurants, cafés, and boutique shops, making it a great place to spend the whole day.

The water drops off quite quickly, which makes it a favourite for stronger swimmers and snorkellers. You’ll often see locals and tourists bobbing around in the water with masks and snorkels, and it’s not uncommon to spot colourful fish right near the shore.

Insider tip: If you’re into photography, come early in the morning when the beach is quieter and the light is perfect. And don’t miss the food stalls across the street—especially the fresh fruit salads and mango with chilli salt. The samosas are my favourite!

Blue Bay – Snorkeller’s Paradise

Best for: Snorkelling, marine life, family adventures

Blue Bay is located in the southeast of the island and is home to Mauritius’ only official marine park. It’s a fantastic beach for families and underwater explorers alike. The reef here is incredibly rich with coral and tropical fish, and visibility is often excellent—no need to be an expert diver to enjoy it.

You can rent snorkelling gear or hop on a glass-bottom boat to glide over colourful coral gardens. The beach is small but lovely, with calm water and shaded areas that are great for picnics. I was lucky enough to swim with turtles, quite by accident, so that’s why there’s a pic here. It was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever had.

Insider tip: If you’re snorkelling, head to the left side of the bay where the best coral is. Reef shoes are a good idea, and don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen to help protect the marine life.

Ile aux Cerfs – The Picture-Perfect One

Accessible by boat from the east coast, Ile aux Cerfs is a private island that looks like something straight out of a screensaver. Think palm-fringed shores, vivid turquoise waters, and white sand that seems to glow under the sun. It’s developed enough to have restaurants, bars, and water sports, but still manages to feel like a tropical dream.

This is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mauritius, hands down, and a must-visit on any island itinerary. There’s plenty to do—parasailing, kayaking, and lounging in overwater hammocks. It’s a little more touristy, but for good reason.

Insider tip: Book a catamaran cruise that includes a stop here, and aim to arrive before 11am to snag the best beach spots. You’ll also get fewer crowds and more of that island-paradise feel.

Trou aux Biches – The All-Rounder

This beach ticks all the boxes: calm, clear waters for swimming, excellent snorkelling near the reef, plenty of food options, and beautiful sunset views. It’s ideal if you’re travelling with kids or just want an easy-going beach day without straying too far from the action.

Trou aux Biches is popular but never feels overrun. The water is shallow and calm, making it safe for little ones, and there’s a diving centre nearby for those wanting to explore a bit deeper.

Insider tip: Bring your snorkel and head to the coral reef just off the beach—it’s one of the best accessible spots for beginners. You can also grab a roti or fresh pineapple from the beach vendors for a quick local lunch.

La Cuvette – The Secret Spot

Best for: Peace and quiet, romantic picnics, hidden gem vibes

Tucked just behind the busy hub of Grand Baie, La Cuvette is easy to miss—but that’s part of the charm. It’s a small, sheltered bay with soft sand and calm water, perfect for a quiet dip or a peaceful afternoon with a book.

There’s not much in the way of facilities, but that’s exactly why it feels so untouched. You’ll mostly find locals here during the week, and couples seeking a bit of privacy away from the main tourist trail.

Insider tip: Bring everything you need—there are no shops right on the beach. It’s a perfect spot for a DIY romantic picnic at sunset.

Tamarin Bay – Surfer’s Paradise

Tamarin Bay is one of the few beaches in Mauritius with surfable waves, making it the top choice for board riders. The setting is stunning: black volcanic sand, river estuary, and the towering Rempart Mountain in the background.
